Day 1: Muscat – Nizwa – Alhaqaf (Camping)

In the morning, we’ll leave **Muscat** towards **Nizwa**. There, we’ll visit the famous **Nizwa Souq (market)**, where a wide variety of vendors offer their goods in the streets. Here, you can find vegetables, pottery, jewelry, handicrafts, Omani sweets (Halwa), dates, spices, and souvenirs, all sold in authentic old market halls that few places can boast. Especially interesting is the Friday cattle market when locals from the nearby villages come to sell their goats, cattle, sheep, and chickens in a circus-style open marketplace.

Next to the Souq is **Nizwa Fortress**. The fort is a museum today and offers splendid views of this ancient town and the surrounding mountains. You can walk around this impressive fortress and visit its many rooms, passages, and towers. The fort is an architectural testimony to the economic and military achievements of the early Yaruba dynasty from the mid-17th century. It was a military stronghold designed to withstand even the strongest of attacks at the time; even along the corridors, many traps were laid to deter any intruders that might have penetrated the defenses.

From there, we head towards **Al Haqaf**. Its geological nature protected organisms and fungi plastered plains, sand dunes, high hills, and rocky slopes. Oman’s geological history leaves its clues in the Alhaqaf area. The massive glacial rock in Khalifa represents a historical period in which Oman was part of the continent of Gondwana during the great ice age. The fossils of fossilized trees on the banks of a dry old river show the remains of tropical forests.

Overnight: Camping in Alhaqaf area under the stars.

Day 2: Alhaqaf – Rub Alkhali (Camping)

From **Al Haqaf**, we drive towards **Al Ghaba** for lunch. Then, we drive towards the north of the **Empty Quarter**. The surface of the desert is covered by reddish-orange colored sand dunes, which reach approximately 300 meters high, and several lake beds. It is believed that the lake beds were originally shallow lakes formed by monsoon rains thousands of years ago, and only lasted for a few years.

**Rub’ Al Khali**, as one of the most significant sand seas in the world, has been featured in several international films, such as *Star Wars*.

Overnight: Camping in Rub Al Khali under the stars.

Day 3: Rub Alkhali – Rub Alkhali (Camping)

Leaving your current camping place, we’ll continue our journey to your next camping spot. You are going to cross many dunes, enjoying the desert’s silence and towering high dunes. You’ll pass the third-highest dune in **Rub Al Khali**. Here, the challenge begins: climbing this dune! After a picnic near this dune, we’ll continue our journey to your next camping place.

Overnight: Camping in Rub Al Khali.

Day 4: Rub AlKhali – Fahud – Bahla (Hotel)

From **Rub Al Khali**, we drive toward **Bahla**. We’ll visit **Jabreen Castle**. This castle was originally designed as a presidential palace in 1670 by Balarab bin Sultan bin Saif of the Ya’arubi Dynasty. An extensive renovation was carried out in 1984. The interior includes various furniture and traditional utensils to provide visitors with a taste of the period’s castle lifestyle. The building itself is decorated with elaborate wood carvings, ceiling paintings, and stucco work.

Overnight: In Bahla (Hotel).

Day 5: Bahla – Al Hamra – Misfat – Wadi Bani Awf – Muscat

Leave your hotel in **Bahla** towards **Misfath Al Abriyeen**. This spectacular village lies on a steep slope at the foot of Jebel Shams and consists of old homes and narrow streets. It has a falaj system that irrigates many orchards, date palms, and vegetables, making it well worth spending some time walking around the village. Then, we visit the ancient village of **Al Hamra**.

We continue our journey, driving to **Wadi Bani Awf**. This mountain road drive is an exciting off-road experience and offers fantastic views into dramatic canyons and Wadis, as it winds down several kilometers before connecting with Wadi Bani Awf. Once we reach the valley (Wadi Bani Awf), the road leads us through the Wadi while passing numerous small villages. From the end of the Wadi, we then drive back to **Muscat**.
